Cineria trial.

As part of our crop production module we planted a growth trial of Cineria in the university glass house. We were looking at the effect of pot size on growth rate and vigour. We sowed the seeds at the same time, with the same compost and the same batch of seeds. The difference was the pot size, half were in 9cm square pots and the others in 13cm round pots.

During the trial we had an infestation of white fly so incorporated biological controls with Syngenta's Encarline. This is a parasitic wasp that attacks the white fly larvae.

The trial showed that the larger pot size produced a crop with a larger leaf spread and height, yet the smaller pots produced a more compact plant with a similar leaf count to the larger pots.

The final resulting flowers were very impressive.
